SRS Warning Light: 1994 S Class sedan

Hi:
I just purchased a used 1994 S Class sedan in great condition with 118K miles. I noticed that the SRS warning light comes on with start up and then stays lite for about 2 minutes and then goes off. The owners manual says it should come on and then turn off within 4 seconds. The seller tells me that the SRS light has been staying on for about 1 minute or so for the past year. I also noticed that the seatbelt red light is lite up for maybe 30 seconds despite being buckled in. What does the SRS light staying on as described signify? airbags? seatbelt electrical connection?

Do the airbags need to be recertified or recharged on a certain schedule? If so, how expensive would this be?

Thanks for everyone's advice on this.

So you bought the rod-bender eh?

anyway, often times with those SRS warning lights coming on and shutting off means the computer needs to be reset to clear the light. You can reset it buy pulling the fuse that powers the SRS unit. Pull it out check if its burnt, if not leave it out for about 10 seconds and plug it back in.

It should clear the light. If not, Im not sure if the 94 W140's have OBD2 plugs but if it does rent the OBD2 scanner at autozone and check to see if a code is read and erase it. To see if your car is OBD2 compatable check under the steering collum above the pedals to see if there is a little door.

IF there is, open it and check for a plug, most likely thats the OBD2 plug that the scanner will connect to.

Hope that helps. And good luck with the car!

Ruben:
Thanks very much for your advice. Yep, bought the "rod bender". This one has a Mercedes factory replacement engine installed in 1999 with only 18K on it so hopefully will avoid those problems. Two more questions for you:

!) Are SF Biodiesel COOP and Biofuel Oasis in Berkeley the only 2 sources of Biofuel in bay area? I'm in Palo Alto area.

2) Passenger door lock doesn't open and close with remote key. It slightly moves with center console locking control but doesn't lock or open. Only way to lock door is manually with key from outside. Any fixes for this?

Thanks,
Joe

They have a rotten robbie in mountain view with B20 at the pump. When i dont have time to fill up in SF or berkley i settle for B20. They have B99 at the western states oil station in san jose, not sure of the current price though.

Diesel at the rotten robbie station is $3.09 and B20 is $3.05! so its worth the price to go green!

http://rottenrobbie.com/ will help you out on other locations.

B99 in san jose

Read the DTCs stored in the system and you will probably find that the "Drivers side seatbelt" is indicated.

That happened to me and was fixed . . . read MENU#26 on my pages and see if it works for you.
