Starter motor bolt size

Can someone please tell me the lower starter motor bolt size (dia and pitch) and length? Mine is missing and that's not good. I need to buy one and put in ASAP

The dealer gave me the p/n of the bolt 000 912 012 161 which they do not stock nor can they tell me the specs. They are the same p/n however. What's the best way to get the upper bolt out? From bottom which looks tight? Or from top?

If someone can give me the specs to the bolt it will save me a lot of work.

Thx for the reply. I'm at the opposite coast.

I do not understand when you say pitch is 14. In metric threads, the pitches available for M12 are 1.25,1.5, and 1.75 with 1.25 being the finest and 1.75 the coarsest.

I also do not understand when you say the head is 10 mm. Do you means it takes a 10 mm socket? That would be odd with a head drive smaller than the diameter of the bolt. Does it have a shoulder then? Please clarify.

more missing bolts!!!

Carson, thanks for the info. I found some used bolts from a local Mercedes afficionado.

I installed the lower starter motor bolt, and thought I'd tighten the upper one while I'm there and to my amazement it was also missing! Further inspection revealed another mid bell housing bolt missing and 2 of the lower bell housing bolts could not be tightened (felt like it was stripped) and the bolt head was smaller than the new used bolts I got. I took one of them out and it was a little shorter and smaller diameter than the correct bolt and it was slightly bent! Unbelievable!

I have a receipt from the previous owner for a rebuilt transmission. This is probably the handi work of the shop that did the job!

I wonder what kind of damage was sustained with the missing and wrong size engine to transmission bolts. Do you think the shaft bearings of the engine and transmission was compromised?
I do have engine oil leak there.

Are you sure that neither of the starter bolts were there? It seems that on the first crank the force of the plunger would be enough to eject your starter.

I am 200% sure both starter motor bolts were not there. The upper bolt is still missing since I could not get the bolt in due to interference of the transmission filler tube. I think there is a bracket/bolt on the starter housing which kept the starter from falling out altogether. This is the case on other cars I've worked on but I am not 100% sure on the 617 MB.

Oh, ok. Mine didn't have the additional bracket at the back of the starter, so if it didn't have the 2 main bolts, it would've been dragging on the ground by the cables.
