mpg craziness
There's something that puzzles me about all this mpg-hysteria...
Why look for technofixes when there's a much simpler way, get more people to ride in your car! If your car gets, say, 25 MPG, it will effectively double up (*) to 50 MPG when two persons are riding in it, if counted MPG per person. Put four people in your car and you'll be counting near 100 MPG per person. And ordinary SUV beats any hybrid by environmental, economical and whatnot means if the SUV carries 4 people versus 1 for the hybrid. I realize this is not for everyone but with a little thought and planning it could work for most people. I commute to my shop with a friend and that way we're effectively getting 59 MPG per person in an ordinary 6-cyl BMW gasser. Just my 2 cents.. (* I'm not counting the additional thirst that comes from adding weight in form of passengers but that shouldn't be too much?)

I just think its lame that an E320CDI which is a healthy sized car, with tons of features and enough power to spank a 560SEL, can get in the high 30mpg range.(probably 40 if you really have a light foot) Yet a Prius which is supposed to be the ultimate only gets like 10mpg more, maybe.
A C270CDI probably would match the Prius. No wonder the Germans think hybrids are a joke! Its no E63 but the CDI is respectable: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q49clLnztms
