Too much coolant in resevoir ...
... My mechanic was very generous with topping off last time it was in the shop, and it appears he perhaps got a little too generous with the coolant. Either that or I miscalculated when I topped it off about 3 weeks ago. Anyhow, when I checked the resevoir this morning (car had been sitting for 12 hours) it was about 1.5 cm above the fill line, maybe a bit more (I didn't want to stick my face that close to the antifreeze). So, two questions: 1) What is the danger of running too much coolant? I'm embarassed to say I've driven the car in this state for about 1.5 weeks, but it hasn't done anything weird (temps have been perfect, in fact) and I didn't really have any reason to check the coolant. I just checked as part of my regular routine and noticed this. 2) What's the best way to remove the excess coolant and bring it back to ideal level? I live in a high rise and the car is in a public parking lot. I don't want to spill antifreeze as there are many cats, dogs and kids that will be around the lot. Can I just pull some of the fluid out of the resevoir using a turkey baster? Also, how doe sone dispose of old coolant?
Thanks mucho. ![]()

No need to worry, if the level gets too high, it will drain out of the overflow from the pressure of the cooling system

as long as the coolant is below the small radiator line, I would not worry about it. mine is in the same boat, and it's been this way since I changed the radiator about 3 months ago.

As stated the system will purge the excess......just make sure it does not pool in your driveway and a pet cat or dog drinks it up. That would cause major kidney and liver failiure! Most will purge as you are driving.

if you are worried about the antifreeze getting on the ground and a dog/animal finding it and dying, get a recovery bottle on the vent hose. it will catch any blowout fluid and you will have an extra safety feature.
