help me identify this caliper
Is this an ATE or is it a Bendix?
I need to get a rebuild kit or buy a new caliper. Mine is frozen and smoking the brake pads. Any tricks in disassembly/ reassembly if I want to rebuild? http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c397/funola/83300DRearCaliper.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c397/funola/83300Drearcaliper.jpg

Looks like Bendix - might wanna get new rotors too (and hoses).
If you're going to replace both, replace them with what you want. Most swear by ATE - but Bendix might be less $. Getting a brand new Bendix will be tough, if not impossible. Everybody and their brother rebuilds these. ok...maybe not everybody - you won't have a tough time finding rebuilts, is what I am saying. Always replace in pairs!

Look around on the caliper its hard to miss the logo. A for ATE and bendix has the full logo...

Based on the wide sheet-metal cross-shaped spring, I would say they are ATE. The Bendix has a different type of spring, but as has been mentioned before, both are interchangeable in pairs.

you might want to crack the brake line and see if the caliper frees up..it could be a collapsed hose

To be totally sure, wirebrush the damn thing so you can see the logo that's on the outside of the caliper.

The retaining clip says ATE. Bendix has more of a wire-type spring retainer. I have bendix. Paid $55 each at O'Reillys for reman fronts. They had them in stock.

Ate
I just finished brakes, and I recognize these as Ate (obviously rear). i rebuilt my two front Ate calipers using rebuild kits from ********....about $18 apiece....very easy. I just pried the piston out with a screwdriver, everything else is self explanatory.
good luck, Mark

Thanks for the confirmation of my rear calipers that they are ATE. I tried to look for the ATE logo on mine but with the rust it was difficult to discern. Does the rebuild kit include the metal spring retainer clip? If not, where can I get them individually? Mine are pretty rusted and the one on the R front is broken in half.
