Need help with oil cooler line replacement
Hello-
Just completed installing new oil cooler lines on my 300sd. I'm getting a leak at lower fitting on the oil filter cannister. Tell me if I'm doing it right: 1. Tightened the 24mm male/male union clockwise against the cannister. 2. Tightened the 1 1/16" (27mm) oil cooler line nut clockwise against the male/male union. The oil leak seems to be coming from the connection between the male/male union and the cannister. I've tightened the nut hard against the cannister, can't seem to get it any tighter. Am I missing a part or something? Is there supposed to be a crush washer between the union and the cannister? Wiggling the oil cooler lines out is supposed to be the hard part of the replacement work...that was easy compared to this...what a PITA. Thanks- Rob 300SD 1979 |

Got it
Following up, I got this sorted out. I was running out of travel on my wrench and mistook it for thinking the union nut was tight. Removed the rack dampener bolt, squeezed the wrench in between the back of the IP and front of oil filter housing, was able to get a little more turn which dried up the oil leak.

glad you got it.. I don't like mine dripping any fluids. Some people look at the spots it used to leave and make comments about being an old leaky car. With no leaks, they seem to have changed their minds.
