240d manual windows wont roll up
Well, here is the first "problem" I have experienced with the new 240d - guess I have to break it in sometime.
Yesterday I rolled the window down (non electric windows btw) and when trying to roll it back up, the window would not go up and when I tried to roll up, the window "fell" forward. I was able to pull the window up with my hand, and pushed it back up so that the window does stay up, but if I attempt to roll it back down, it will not go back up unless I do the same procedure. Has anyone had this issue before? If so, I know I obvoulsly need to open the door panel, but do you think it just came off track or something, or do I need to obtain parts before I attempt to repair the window? Thanks! |

You're going to have to open it before you know what you need. On the front windows, there are a couple of plastic guides that move in tracks in there...one on the bottom of the window, one on a track at the rear edge of the window, and one center-rear on the door. If one of these plastic guides has broken (certainly does happen on a 25yo car) you'll need to replace it, or use a strong 2-part epoxy at least.
Make sure you clean out those tracks and lube well with grease when you're done. The good news is that once cleaned and lubed, they should go a looooong time without needing more maintenance.

It could be you need a new "window regulator". Last one I got from a wrecking yard was $45. they can also be purchased new for not much more. Remove the door panel to investigate.

Window regulators are for electric windows correct? Mine are manual.

regulator
I just replaced the two front manual window regulators on my new 240. They were both broken. Its pretty easy to just replace them.

You are describing exactly the conditions that happened when my 240D broke the manual window regulator on the driver's side. It was broken in a place not easily repairable with standard parts.
The replacement of the regulator is not hard, and results in a very satisfying smooth operation of the window. Part is available from MercedesShop/WorldPac. It was not easy to see what was broken on the regulator until it was removed and placed beside the new unit - but it was surely broken. Ken300D

regulators are used in electric or manual, they are different tho. The right, left, front and back are different also so be sure you get the right one.

My pass side window stopped working last year (seems everytime someone sits in my passenger seat, something breaks - right now its the pass. side seat belt latch)
Anyway, I pulled the door apart and was able to fix it by bending the arms(?) back into position. I don't remember exactly what the cause was, but I was able to fix it by bending it all back into its proper position. I did take my time bending, and I half expect it to go again, but again, at 25yrs, I'm cool with it. You might get lucky also. -John
