you have to add something to increase the lubrication properties of the fuel

I keep a gallon of Wesson Oil in my trunk for the emergencies that may come up.
In the summer I run veggie oil all the time so this is a good option. It's not flammable
and won't stink if it spills. It's the safest alternative for fuel emergencies and will lubricate your engine something wonderful! And found at pretty much every store you might come across.

You can use vegetable oil. Make sure it's non hydrogenated. Canola and soybean are better than olive oil.

If it is cold, make sure you don't let the engine cool down before you run diesel through it to flush the veggie oil out.

Everyone has a Home Depot close by. I've run in to grab a bucket of turkey deep fat fryer oil and poured it in along with a quart of Diesel pure to keep it flowing. By the way, every dog in the neighborhood followed me home! My neighbors said I smelled like fried chicken! It ran quieter too, but I don't do this all the time!

any oily fluid

Just put a one or two gallon fuel can in your trunk.

Or better yet, don't run out of fuel in the first place.

When I first got my 220D I had a bunch of used engine oil, I ran it through an oil filter and poured it into a full tank diesel. I got the idea from a website, where on a construction site they take the out of the engine and put it in to the fuel tank, so there is no oil to be hauled away. It made the 220D a lot quieter she ran just fine. I stopped I did not like my pre fuel filter completely black.

I remember reading somewhere that motor oil has junk in it that leaves ash deposits in your cylinders when burned.. in other words it is a great lubricant until you burn it, then it becomes abrasive. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Kpmurphy,

I don't care what color my primary filter is. That's just carbon black that comes out of the engine in gthe exhaust anytime Diesel fuel is burned. It doesn't hurt anything to put a little back in by using used engine oil.

I burn used engine oil all the time. It lubricates the IP now that the sulphur content of the fuel is so low.

let's see, kerosene, vegetable oil... I have heard of ATF, I think anything other than atf would just be too thick

Chuck, I have used military jet fuel (JP8) in my 300D, I imagine you could run Jet A as well, but I don't think we could find THAT at the gas station

Fell off the WVO bandwagon when people started trying to charge $2.50 a gallon for dirty vegetable oil.

You have to pay if you're just "one of us" who never has dealer service now.
