Kick down / passing power '83 300SD

My 83 300SD does not have a kickdown, that is when I stomp of the accelerator nothing happens.

You can use the shifter too, just drop it to "3" on the shifter, then go back to "D" when done passing. Note, NEVER shift to "3" if you're going over about 60-65mph....it will only over-rev the engine. Its best used in the 40-55mph range. The absolute max for 3rd gear in a 300SD is around 70-73mph.

Maybe the switch is bad?
I know my E300 has an electronic switch under the gas pedal...bury the pedal in the carpet and it goes WOT and downshifts a gear.
I've seen the switch for sale online from various parts suppliers.

theres a little switch under the gas pedal. make sure that the carpeting or your floor mat isnt in the way of it. if you have a multimeter, disconnect the switch, and hook the test leads to it. Press down on the switch and see if you have continuity. if you do, then the switch is ok, and you must hunt for the problem elsewhere, if not then its time for a new one.

Hope this helps.

Thumbs up

I get the carpet in the way at times too. Also, if it's not the switch it could be the wiring at the trans, the gauge cluster, etc.

Check the switch. Check the relay.
