anyone ever use the free towing from Mercedes?

I've read a few posts where a Mercedes breaks down, and they allways say, I went back to picj up the car, or I limped home, I was wondering if anybody ever used the 1-800-4Mercedes free towing? If so, how would you rate the service, how long did it take for the tow truck to arrive,,,

They stand by their word and frankly best roadside service ever. Operators are very friendly and efficient. I can't say how impressed I was that an 800 number put into my owner's manual in probably 1990 was still working today.

The main problem is that they will only tow to the nearest dealer. I had to get mine back from Detroit, to whunters house when the front pulley fell off.

being half an idiot

I needed a jump. Called the 800 number and they registered me as the new owner and sent out a mechanic from the local dealer. They got be going and I signed something so they could get reimbursed from MB. My wife was pleasantly surprised.

The free services are well defined. Towing is not one of them. And the roadside service vehicle that most dealers seem to use is not a tow truck.

Anybody know what happens if the local dealer is a long way off? Do they contract with locals like AAA?

Nevermind, just read the above link and it says they may use an outside service.

Never used them. But my friend did and he said they were pretty good. I have AAA which is good if you need a tow. But if I ever get a flat and can't get the wheel off or need a jump I'll call MB.

I guess 1-800-4mercedes may not be a good number,,, according to my 1992 400e manual the number is 1-800-222-0100 BUT according to MBUSA it's 1-800-367-6372

They've always come out to help me when I've been stuck, but they do make you wait a while.

I've learned that the day-shift gentleman is much nicer than the night-shift one-- He even remembered my Shlomo!!

What I don't get is why my car ONLY runs out of fuel whenever it's sitting in the driveway, or right as I get on the interstate. It's never run out any other time!

I've used them once the deal was towed to the nearest dealer free or to wherever I wanted it towed at a "discounted contract rate"
I wanted to go home not to the dealer so the operator had their local tow guy call me to make arrangements; I told him where I was and where home was and he pulled a price out of the air.. I got towed 89 miles for $175, really not a bad deal as I expected them to tell me $350... but it took him 1.5 hours to show up while I sat by the side of the road on I-26 on a 95* August afternoon...

Most dealer Roadside techs use ML's today (purchased by the dealership at a price heavily subsidized by MBUSA) and authorized dealers are required to have a Roaside responder available 24/7. All towing is done by contractors dispatched by the MBUSA Roadside Assistance Center.

Interestingly,,,I placed the same thread on the tech section (hoping to snag gasser cars) and the tow options was twice what it is for the diesels.

I wonder if there is any correlation?
