Hey,

I just noticed my local AutoZone has the Truck one too, so I bought some. It's 5w-40 and was $6.19 each--whoa. I'm running the 0w40 now. I guess we'll see how it goes.

Has there been issues with the 0w40?

I saw it yesterday for $5.99 a quart at the local Autozone. I'll wait for a sale then buy two oil changes worth.

Some people observed increase wear metals in oil analysis, and increased hydraulic lifter noise, with the 0W-40. Both symptoms went away when the same engine was switched back to 5W-40 or 15W-50. Mercedes uses the 0W-40 for fuel economy reasons, not engine longevity.

Both issues went away when they reverted to the 5W-40 or 15W-50 variants of Mobil-1. I won't use the 0W-40 in any of my cars. I use either the 5W-40 or the 15W-50.

I hope mine quiets down, I had the identical issue, 3 weeks into M1 0W40 and thrashing machine. Darn, I went back to 5W40 Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme--My daughter had difficulty sourcing Val-5W40 so she went with the M1, HUGE MISTAKE--get this though, I put the new 5W40 mobil 1 in my 602.961 without a hiccup. I'm really hoping I'm not putting lifters and an oil pump in this thing next month.

I get the Rotella synthetic at wallmart for $16 bucks and just change it more often. (every 5000 miles) At 1/2 the price of the Mobil 1 you can change it more often and still save money.

While there is nothing wrong with your logic (Rotella Syn every 5k is fine), the cost isn't quite half... $16 vs. $22 means the Rotella about 30% less. The M-1 TDT comes in a gallon jug, though... can't remember offhand if the Rotella Syn is a 4 or 5 quart container. If it's 5qts for $16, that would make the difference $3.20/qt vs. $5.50/qt, for a 40% savings...

But you're also changing the oil twice as often. Personally I'd rather spend less time under the car! And, even with the cost differential... at $3.20/qt every 5k, vs. $5.50/qt every 10k, it's actually cheaper to use the Mobil-1 (Rotella would be $6.40/qt every 10kmi, M-1 still $5.50/qt at 10k).

the stuff is a miracle in a bottle

I bought mine in the 4 quart jug for $23.00 something at Wally World. What a place. Has every thing. Then I changed the oil in the 85 and I simply can't believe the difference. It started this morning at about 35 degrees, like it did on the 4th of July. Instantly, with one short glow! And without the block heater. And it runs and idles so quiet. And a totally smooth idle instantly upon starting up. Then the simple fact I can run this stuff twice as long and have all the above benefits, I think someone would have to be nuts not to run it.

Amen, brother. But you'd be amazed how many people resist the switch and come up with all kinds of reasons not to use D-1. I can't say enough good things about it!
