Hmmm, tach amp indeed
So I had kinda ruined my tach amp trying the old cigarette butt trick. No worries, 'cause the thing was shot anyway, right?
Ordered a new amp, slapped it in there -- worked for about half a day. Crap. Pulled it off today to clean all the contacts. Only able to see two metal sockets in the tach amp mount. Pulled the mount off and turned it over to discover three of the five metal sockets had pushed all the way out of the mount. Seemed to have been held in by silicone like the amp itself. Re-inserted the sockets, jammed the holder full of itty-bitty shreds of a clean rag (don't worry -- just temporary), re-installed, screwed the amp back on and presto! Now I wonder if a lot of those cigarette butts, rubber washers and worms that I read about on the forum were chasing a problem in the mount and not the amp? Anyway -- for any of you in the future who might turn this up in a seach; check your tach amp mount before potentially ruining your existing amp or ordering a replacement.

Thanks, I'll check those tomorrow. I cleaned all the connectors that connect there also, ie: from the cruise control etc. That seemed to help for a coule of days. It still works when it wants to.
