87 300SDL lug nut size...having a really ****ty day with this :-/
I've made 3 trips to sears with my dad who is helping me with the brakes on my 300 SDL, 1987.
its a W126 chassis (I think) and we can't find anything that will A: be the correct size of the lug nuts and B: fit inside the recess for the lug nuts. My neighbours have a 190E but their wrench is too small. My toolkit has a tire iron but it is also too small. Any suggestions? The mercedes dealership is closed today >_< |

If you have factory lug bolts they take a 17mm socket.

I'm surprised you didnt find anything at sears to fit.
theyre 17mm, I in fact know for certain I have a 17mm socket that came from sears I've used on lug bolts before at home. maybe worth another trip out there to check again.

Okay, that wasn't useful information if you tried the factory wrench

There is no way these are 17mm, they are between 20mm and 21mm
Is it likely that the previous owner in a fit of americanism switched them to imperial units that were wayyyy too big? |

Go to the corner gas station or a tire shop. Give them a couple of bucks to tell you what among their array of wheel tools fits.

The wheel bolts are 17mm, I use a 17mm deep Craftsman socket with blue tape wrapped around it(protect that paint). You want to get a 1/2 drive 17MM, not a 3/8.
If a 17mm doesn't fit someone screwed it up in the past, they must have re tapped the hub. I'd go the the junk yard and replace the hubs to be able to use the proper(stock) wheel bolts. Please post a pic, maybe we can figure it out. All W126's use this long neck bolt, or the new short neck style.
