84 300 turbo 317,000 miles
I have a minor problem, when the engine is cold when I accelerate hard there is a lot of black smoke, when the engine is at operating temp. there is no smoke on hard acceleration does this idicate bad seals in the turbo ? At first I thought it might be the pump timming but if it was a timming issue it would do it all the time. Thanks for any input

Best way to fix it is don't run your diesel hard until it is warmed up. This shoud be pretty much standard operation for any engine. The most wear and tear you could do, to shorten the life of your engine, is run it hard before it comes up to temp.
No, this is pretty much normal operation for any diesel. If the engine is cold, you have less complete combustion and therefore black smoke.
