Guessing it would be one or all of the following: Resonance flaps, EGR or MAF.

Look at all the wiring where it is connected to a sensor that screws into the block or the head. Remove the intake manifold and you will be able to see a couple under there.

Are the sensors all in the inlet manifold assembly itself or elsewhere.

MAF is between air filter and motor. Other two are on the crossover/intake manifold side.

It ain't going to matter which one you look at. If the harness is original the insulation will be busted up/missing within the last inch or so of the connection. Very obvious once you see it.

OK I am gonna take a good look. I have already cleaned up all the carbon deposits out of the cross over pipe between the air cleaner and the inlet manifold. There are a total of three butterfly flaps in there - but these are vaccum driven not electrical. I noticed a couple of wire connections on the underside of the inlet manifold itself - I did not take that off last time I was investigating. Is this where I should be looking - or just everywhere after I have lifted out the inlet manifold. Will report back.

I don't know the sensors but it did not help. the mechanics are stumped. The car still runs very rough when you first start it. once its at highway speed it runs fine, getting there is the hard part. I'am going to replace all the fuel lines with clear ones and the O rings. I'll let you know what happens

On a separate thread it was also recommended to change out the fuel delivery pipes that run from a bracket on the innerwing to the pre filter and thermostat housing - apparently they suck air at the joints.
I have just spent 30 mins in the MB dealer trying to figure out the right part numbers for the pipes - they are not easy to figure out from the MB diagrams.

Just curious... have the delivery valve O-rings been replaced yet?

I am going to change all the rest of the fuel lines and o rings when I get the manifold off. I have replaced the ones I can get to so far.

Dont know - but that should be easy to find at the MB dealer; it is a common fault (unfortunately as it is quite expensive) - although I cant find any problems with mine - it seems to be more of a problem on the gas engines.

while replacing my fuel lines I removed the intake manifold and noticed that the air intake baffel on the crossover pipe was badly bent and had no screws holding it in. I fixed this and cleaned the pipe out of all the sut. While cleaning the intake manifld which was filthy I heard something loose inside. the baffel at the bottom of the intake was broken in half.

this would make the car idle poorly. Iam trying to get the a new baffel. I think i found my problem. I hope I can get a new one without buying a new intake.

I will take a good look at mine as well. However this would cause problems when both cold and hot so not sure it is my problem.

So what I did was take the broken vacumm switch out, unscrewed the broken baffel and make a new one out of a piece of a aluminum sign I had laying around my garage. Seems to run fine now, there is a little air in the fuel lines, but now that the lines are clear I can see it. I hope my saga has ended for now.
