How high are the rpms? Just feel for 3 shifts when you take off from a stand still....it should go....vrrmm...shift.....then shift again......then one last shift, at that point its gone through all the gears. These cars always rev a little higher than equivalent gas cars. What RPM are you running at 70? I would guess your car should be between 2400 and 2600 at that speed. Should see how high the older ones rev to go 70. Ones like mine, the 300sd and 300d's rev to about 3000rpm at 70, and about 4200 at 85mph. The smaller 240's are at about 3600rpm at 70 and are essentially maxed out around 85-88mph.

Higher rev's won't hurt them, they're designed for it.

Thumbs up

Seems right, MB didn't start to use a lockup automatic until about 1997.

Cruising at 85 my rpms are about 3400. Normal. Get that sucker up to 115 and hear it scream in the high 4000s!
