1982 300TD radiator replaced! Aww... now what!??

So I got the radiator replaced!! Yahoo!!! My old one was split right on the top and sprayed out everywhere (before a ungly jb welb mend).

So I got the new one in, right? Installed it, no problem. I added some Zerex G05 from pep boys.

Sooooo..... NO water pump action. This is a heartbreak. My temp gauge in the car got up to about 100c. The water pump didn't kick on!!! I tested it by squeezing the large upper hose and feeling for pressure. NOTHING! I'm hoping this is a thermostat defect. The documents from the previous owner state that the water pump was replaced in 2002. Any thoughts??

Did you flush the system. I have heard about globs of nasty stuff coming out of heater cores with a good citric acid flush. Is there a bleeding procedure to get all the air out of the system. Do a search and see what you can find.

It happened to my 1987 300D when I changed the coolant too. Adding more coolant cured that problem. If using less than 2 gallons of coolant that means the system may not filled to capcity.

good luck.

Typical problem after a raditor replacement. There's air in the system. It is very difficult to burp these systems. The best way is to fill the system thru the top radiator hose while the nose is pointed uphill at a steep angle. You need to run the system for a while with the heater on full blast, then continue adding coolant until it is full.

I agree that there is air in the sytem. The water pump is always running so it does not "kick" on. Air in these cars reaks havoc for sure.

Hmm... Okay, so I can get the car on an incline..... Now fill it using the upper hose?? The small one?? The large one would simply drench me if I tried it that way, right? Fill with the car running, right??

So far, (I've got a turbo) I've only put in about a gallon and a half into the overflow tank, and she won't take anymore in there. She needs to burp, in a bad way. If anyone has any other helpful pointers, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
