I have a '76 240D and a '91 350SDL. Changing the oil filter on the 240D is a PITA! I've heard that there is an adaptor of some type that will relocate the oil filter to a more convenient place in the engine compartment. Is this reality or I am sucking in too many diesel fumes.

If they exist, please let me know where I can purchase one. If not, your condolences will be appreciated.

Custom fabricated "By-pass oil filter" is the option

Don't you still have to service the main filter with a bypass system?

I take it the W123 style filter block doesn't fit a W115.

Yes. The main filter should be changed half way through the intended oil change interval. Both the main and the bypass are changed with the oil.
