you are paying $46 every month tho, that is $276 every 6 months. that is very close to what state farm charges me for my 300D, which is not a classic car. but my 240D is $26 every six months. also in arkansas classic car registration cost me $14 which lasts 2 years instead of the normal 1 year.

When I lived in Alabama Farmers was the least expensive insurer in the south...that's been a number of years but still worth a phone call if they insure in your state.

There may be some low-mileage assumptions being made for these cars with "classic" plates. True classic cars are rarely driven, spend most of their time in the garage. If you do go this route, don't ever mention to the insurance company that the car is your "daily driver!" Maybe disconnect the odometer?

i called 11 insurance companies when i wanted to switch away from geico. i really wanted to get a car appraisal done, i only payed 2k for my 300D and it is perfect inside. i could get 5k easy on ebay or more. every insurance company told me that in the case of an accident, they will still go back to nada.com or their normal appraiser. everyone said that. so it was crazy to get one. i ended up just going with state farm thinking they are cheapest for me. went to the office and told them the normal stuff. 240D came up at $150 for six months. then i told her i drive the car to work lots, and is a classic. that dropped it to $26.

Have a great day.
You can only have Hagerty insurance on a collector car that is not your primary car and which is only used for "pleasure" driving, not to school or commuting regularly and they require that you have another car which is insured that is your daily driver so it would probably not help out the guy who posted the question...plus I am pretty sure they won't take on anyone under 21 but don't know is absolutely true.

They all suck...you can find horror stories about every company. Bottom line is if you have assets to protect you need better and more coverage than if your biggest asset is the $1000 car you're driving. The better your insurance the better the chances are that some scumbag lawyer will take on a case against you. Maybe having Farmers is a great way to keep the lawyers off your case if they have a reputation for not paying out. The lawyers love an overinsured defendant with great coverage from a great compnay, that's what they dream of.

He only wants liability insurance so why does he care how good the company's reputation is? He's insuring everyone else on the road and smart people with lots to protect have un/underinsured motorist coverage to protect themselves. If I were young and had no assets I wouldn't care too much about the reputation of my insurance company.

He said it's a $700 car that needs to be insured, not a $55,000 E320 CDI so nhdoc is on the right track.

Dirt cheap bare minimum price is the goal. Features and company quality should not matter much in his case. All he need to have is the piece of paper that shows the DMV/cops that he is legal.

Look around for local insurance companies. You might be able to find a non-national place and work out a bare-bones policy.

Thats what it cost, my families insurance agent got me a good price actualy. I priced out my own policy, with Progressive, Allstate(my own), and Geico. All three were about $350ish per month. Being on my parants policy saves me a lot. Of course I am the "primary driver" for my car, I don't mess around because if you do and you need it they won't cover you.

Classice car insurance is a joke if you want to actualy use the car. If it sits in a locked garage and is only taken out for fun on weekends its a good deal. But some people get it and think there smart and drive the car to work ect, which such policies prohibit. Sure there real smart, get into one accident and see how fast they tell you that your SOL.

Also remember if you are 16 and get into a major accident, no one is going to sue you. You have no money, they will go after your parents because they have assets, remember that when you pull insurance tricks. Like your house?
