What adn where is deceleration dampner on 603?
Hello all,
My 1987 300td has a rough idle and sometimes stalls if you let your foot off the accelerator too quickly. I was looking in the manual and saw something about a deceleration dampner in the programmed repairs. I cant seem to find it in the rest of the manual...I need to learn how to navigate these CDs sometime. Anyway, is this the same thing as the rack dampner, and does the 603 have one? I'll check back in the morning. Thanks in advance |

I would wonder if maybe the electronic idle control on your car isn't working, thus the engine stalls when letting off the fuel too quickly. What rpms does it idle at when in park/drive just sitting there? It should be 650-700 or so for a 603 I believe....if its lower than that I'd suspect an idle control issue. The idle control is a knob under the hood right near the brake booster, it has notches on it marked 1-7 and turning this higher or lower should increase or decrease idle. Try raising it a click or two and see if it does anything....

Well, the electronic idle control is set at number 7. When I turn it down, the gets progressively slower. At number 7, the idle is right around 650 rpm. Any ideas?
