timing injection pump.

so i fixed the diapram on my 76 240d injection pump and have installed the pump. nothing was moved on the pump or the car while i fixed it. i have since then gotten the car to run, but extremely rough. i was told to turn the pump in one direction or the other to fine tune it. is this correct? i am assuming the car would not run if the car or the injection pump where accidentaly moved. is this also correct?

YOu need to time the engine. When you put it back in how did you do your initial timing? Did you line up the IP notches while on TDC or did you just put it back in?

Wow. You're crazy! I think that's called the beer can method. You crack me up. You've got guts, though!

There is a DIY of the "drip method" in the wiki section.

Did anyone ever figure out if the millivolt method really worked well or not?

Pull the inj pump out and look closely at the splined hub. Note the area where it looks like some of the teeth are gone. You need to line that mark up with a stamping on the case, set the engine to the spec'd timing and insert the inj pump. Sorry, I don't have the numbers right here handy. Do a search on the subject and you can read all about it.

Isn't there a tool your supposed to use to lock it in place?

What does the manual have to say about IP installation?

ok i have the injection pump off. the chiltons manual says to have the motor set to 45 degrees before top dead center. i am that far. i get confused as to what to do with the pump itself. on the pump gear there is a spot that looks like it is missing a tooth or two. on the piece that goes between the pump and the motor also has a spot on it where there are no teeth. what do i do with these.
the manual is somewhat confusing.
