so i purchased the dipstick seal,which is just a .17c O-ring, and i installed it. the problem i am having is that it is not solid. with that i mean that it still wobbles around. i know there is a bracket that holds the dipstick in place, but there is nothing to keep it from sliding up and down. this really does not seal it at all.

any suggestions?

is the tube the dipstick goes into the thing that is loose?

if so it is a friction fit into the flange of the block with a sturdy bracket that takes a bolt into the block. if not bolted in it could work loose.

i dont knw what to say if the dipstick itself is loose.

well i was thinking about cleaning up the area around where the dipstick and the top of the oil pan meet, and then using JBweld to seal it. is that a decent fix for my problem, or does that complicate some other replacement?

Are you talking about the dipstick itself or the tube? My dipstick has been lose for years, bought a replacement O ring once but almost couldn't remove the dipstick. Stuck the old one on and gave up.

Now the tube itself should seat pretty solid. Wrong O ring maybe?

it is the right seal, it just is loose upwards. it does not move sideways, but i can pull up on the dipstick tube. as i was driving it home from texas, i was loosing oil. i was looking at the oil pressure guage and it suddenly started dropping. i pulled over and poured oil back in it. i am not sure where i am loosing it, but i asumed that it was comming from the dipstick seal, since it was loose. what are some other areas that i could be loosing much oil.

i looked under the car and saw that there was oil spray on the exaust pipe under the car. so could it be in the lower back of the engine?

what are some good ways to check?
