second Benz?

I have a 1980 300SD right now, and I'd like to get another Mercedes. The question is...what? They are rare enough up here as it is, so I'm trying to figure out what would be a good addition to my 300SD that wouldn't be extremely similar, but that would make a nice second Benz.

And yes, I'm aware that any good Mercedes that I can find would be a good second, but if you had a 300SD and could only get one more, what would it be?

Dunl,

If U think your 300SD is good, get a 300SDL. I know, I have both.

How similar are they? I'm looking for something nice, but different.

Mine are both 126's and that does have its advantages (and di$advantages). What would be a good pair up with a 116?

I did find one up here for $1000, but it has "some rust, and needs work".

Fuel line needs replaced as well.

Getting a good one would be hard, I'm sure.

I am kicking myself for not getting a 300TD when they weren't so trendy. That would be my choice, if you can find one now. I wouldn't care to gamble with an OM603 head issue- otherwise like the SDL.

dunl,

Look on Ebay for a 300 SDL. I found 2 there I bought. Be patient and wait for the right one.

Do the sdl'd come strictly with turbos, or are there turbo-less models?

another benz

I'd go with simplicity like a nice 240D or 220D manual. I 300TD would be nice also (what I lust for). Whatever you decide, do it soon because the prices are getting insane. Several 240d's over 5000 on ebay now. Classifieds in local newspaper has daily add for someone buying older mercedes diesels.

I got the diesel, if I'm going to have a spare Benz around (and I also have been considering this), then I want something fast - 560SEC probably.

560SEC

I keep almost forgetting that they have gasser Benzes.

With that in mind, an SL would be nice.

OTOH, the 240D is the only relatively common Mercedes you can get with a stick (at least in North America). If you like to row your own gears and don't want to do a transplant, this is it.

Do you have a W126? If so, get a W116 300SD. Or go for simplicity and get a 240D. Didn't the 240D come in a W115 one year, that would be extra cool.

Don't forget:

Euro 280SL (five speed stick)
Euro 280E (four on the floor)

Both are neato with that M110 screamer! A lil hot rod in a light chassis.
