On every post about WVO,there is always talk about ruining your engine. Coke build-up in the rings ect. You will have to rebuild your engine. My question is-who has the most miles on a MB,running unheated WVO. I want to know how many miles before I might ruin my engine. Are talking 100000 miles before I need to rebuild? So guys who has the most and has anyone every rebuilt an engine because you run WVO.

there is a guy on the grease car forum called one tank i belive.. i know him personally and he is a nut but he says he has run 10k miles with no coking and such. rebuilding the engine should probably done when its needed .. maybe 500k miles. the coking deal can be delt with if it is true.. just do a diesel purge then follow up with some power service diesel kleen in the grey bottle or some 44k if you can find it.

my engine has 262k miles but only a small fraction of them are on wvo..
I have started keeping track of miles now... I drove 348 this week on wvo only and only in the fuel tank... I will keep you up todate on the miles..

This thread is long overdue. There are at least 2 distinct camps here and opinions are strong on both sides of the fence.

Even though I'll be following this thread, the fact that someone clocked a few thousand or even 10k miles on unheated wvo is statistically insignificant. Thats only 1/25th or 1/30th of the lifetime of a reasonably well cared for engine runnin on diesel.

Finally, I seriously doubt that if anyone killed an engine using WVO they would own up to it here.

I had a rusty heap of a 300D I ran on mostly WVO (heated, but not well) for a summer and fall. It was already a little tired, smoked a lot, but when I changed oil I noticed it was very sticky and reluctant to flow.

That observation was one of many that led me to make biodiesel instead.

Unfortunately doing a purge is not going to make the problem go away. I dont know why this is such an issue. If you want to run WVO then by all means do it, but heat the oil 160-180 degrees. I think most people who dont either dont want to spend the money or think that coking wont happen to them. You would have to save lots of money to make getting another engine worth while.

It is a pain in the butt to heat the oil. It is your opinion that you will ruin the engine.Have you ever seen an engine that was run on wvo.Then pulled the head to see what it looked like on the inside. I am not looking for opinion- I want miles and what does the engine look like.

Mercedes does a lot of testing, far more then any individual could ever do.

I'll begin to consider WVO, when I can flip open my MB owners manual to page XXX and it talks about it, and says its ok to use.

I surely would have invested $1500 in my car to get the kit from Greasel installed but I don't have the time to go around collecting WVO. So, since that's the situation for now, I won't be getting into it. Now, if some company is selling filtered WVO for a good price then I might change my mind, but as far as I know there isn't such a service -- yet!

i think we need a new section for wvo,svo and bio. god it would be nice to get on the diesel forum and not see 10 posts a page about that crap. but hey im dreamin, kinda like sending the illegals back to mexico right?

Well I just skim over the biodiesel stuff. Frankly at least for me all the overheating, low power, and no start threads that get tiresome. Every single one of those questons has been answered, yawn.

That is why I started the thread------I want to answer the question once and for all. If it was not for WVO guys like me and other would not be into mercedes. I am not into them because they drive nice,look good or run like heel. I know I am tired of the vacuum problem,dumped the wrong oil in ect. I will say one thing--I have learned alot on this forum--the diesel giant does one heck of a job on this web site and here--thanks.. And do you ever think mercedes or any other car company would say. You could burn anything other then what the oil companies produce.

I've thought about all the WVO related problem threads and questions too, imagine how many less issues of that type there'd be if everyone just ran diesel. Everyone would be driving around problem free, except financially.

Someone here should set up a 616 or 617 as an electrical generator, and power it off wvo for hundreds/thousands of hours of continual use, then do a teardown, and see how it looks. Maybe with two engines, one with heated and one with unheated oil. And this would be a "best case, cruising at 2600rpm all day on the highway" type test as it is, so anything bad that'd show up, would be worse in an engine used for road travel.

I would think a WVO Forum (not just a sticky thread as it is currently) would be a welcome addition here. Many people are buying old mbz diesels expressly for WVO use. The infopop site among many others is a great resource, but not really MBZ specific.

I'm sure WVO/SVO/Blenders here would like a place to discuss their particular (ahem) 'art'.
