300d trailer wiring

Hi I am trying to install a trailer wiring harness to my 77 300D

The harness is a 4 pole flat connector style. Generic harness.

its only instructions are;
White wire-ground
Brown-tailights.
yellow-left turn and stop
green- right turn and stop.

on the 300d this is my wires found.
Black/red wire is the Brake wire-----
Grey/black is the taillights----so that goes to brown on the harness.
Blk/wt is turn signal L
Blk/ green is turn signal R
Brown is ground----so that goes to white on the connector.

My question is how do I splice the brake lights and the signal lights together?

Will pressing the brakes when the signal light on cancel the flashing signal and make a solid light? or will the voltage double? and go brighter with the flashes?

I might be over thinking this......... If someone can clarify that would be great.
PS I made a receiver hitch this weekend for it. Will post pics tomorrow. I tired into the bumper mounts.

Go to an auto parts store or a RV supply and get a small circuit box that converts the separate stop and signal light feeds to a single circuit that works the single stop/turn bulb on the trailer. The box is about the size of a match box and has wires coming out of both ends. They are easy to hook up.

I agree. On my 300D I bought a converter from U-haul that
takes our separate turn-brake-rear lamps and allows a simple 4 wire
connector to handle a standard one bulb per side trailer.

They're right

You can't get there from here

The trailer has combined brake/turn signals, the car has seperate brake and turn signals. But you're not the first one to try it. Just about every place that car parts has a little box that will do the job.

Thanks guys,
I will go to Napa. Then to Uhaul.

If neither have them I will make the box with some diodes.

I want to know I wasn't loosing it trying to figure this one out.....

I made one with diodes and relays, but I mounted them on the tail light holder of a Peugeot that was not compatable with the tail lights of Mercedes

Here are some pictures of the receiver I built on the weekend.

I used 2.5 inch receiver tubing. And 1/4 plate on the brackets. The brackets sat under the bumper mounts. There was just enough threads sticking out the nut to be ok. With out a washer tho. I used 1/4 plate but 3/16 would have sufficed.

The angles on the brackets were made of 3/16. The chain area is 1/4 inch.

I built a receiver because I need to be able to have a pintle style hitch on the vehicle for a run to buy a utility trailer this weekend. I am buying a light weight ex miltary trailer. It weights in at 775lbs. With 16 inch tires. So I imagine I should be able to tow not too bad. 12hr drive back with it behind. Lots of breaks to check things out with my engine. I don't want to cook the tranny

Wired in the box, lights work

Now I just have to slip in the shim packs to the rear coils. I had new coils installed a few months back. It still suck holes low on the back. I used linfiger whattcha makacallits. OEM.

Sits low still, so I bought from MB a 19 mm or 18mm shim for each coil at the back.

Doo you guys think I could simply load up the back and use a herc strap, x2 around the coil and then let the weight off to be able to slip the shim in???

I know how to be safe. Its not a great practice with a strap. But I have a few tonne herc straps the ratcheting type. Will this just not work?

On friday I want to tow a trailer a pretty good distence.

Thanks, BB
