My PS pump slings a mist. I see it on the bumper if hood is opened and engine idled. Very tiny drops so hard to even notice. I plan to research changing the seal eventurally. I will look at link. Special tool, humm. I put some leak stuff in PS fluid to see if it reduced the mist. So far it seems to be assisting, but time will tell. I guess the additive loosed up the seal some.

The rebuild kit is cheap and procedures for the rebuild are described in this forum. I concur that the P/S reservoir gasket is not the likely source of your oily mist.
Mine has no gasket and does not leak out the top.

After washing and degunking the heck out of the engine, I'm pretty sure you're right on this one.

There is oil on the back of the pulley, and on the edge of the pulley. The new aluminized hood pad I recently put in has oil splatter parallel to the pully, and it is most intense near the P/S pully. There's more further towards the passenger side, but it gets less intense.

This would explain my blackened and gunked drivers fender, as well as my windshield-washer fluid bottle being covered with gunk so thick even a pressure washer couldn't dislodge it.

Re: oil cooler hoses. They are definitely bad and definitely need to be replaced. I need my car to get to work, so I don't know if that's a repair I should try myself, since if I end up destroying the oil cooler bolts, I'll be in a world of hurt.

Here's the link for the P/S pump rebuild:

Replacing the oil cooler hoses isn't the hard part. It's getting them out that I found the hard part. I needed to have the a/c drained to allow the compressor to be removed to get them off the engine. Unless someone knows an alternate way to do it. I couldn't find a way to maneuver the formed pipe elements out. On the other hand, when the engine was on a stand out of the car, it was easy!

http://dieselgiant.com/oilcoolerlinereplacementl.htm is a pretty good description of how to do it without removing the compressor.
