Differential seals
I thought I'd try to fix my leaky differential while I was replacing the axles. According to the manual, the seals are supposed to come out easily by prying on them with a screwdriver.
I've used a screwdriver and hammer, then a prybar. These things are STUCK. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

Is that the pinion seal that goes to the drive shaft? Mine leaks and should be replaced at some point.

Yes, the ones in the holes for the axles.
The trick is to pry from one side, then the other, then a different angle, then back, and then invent a new angle, and reinvent a different one, and... you get the picture. I don't know why it was giving me so much trouble. I think maybe I disfigured it early on, and it tightened up on me. It will come out, though. Now I just don't know if I want to mess with the other one. It's 23 years old, but it's dry. Might just wait until I see a problem. |
