clear vaccum line going from ALDA to firewall broken...what size is it?

turbo hasn't been working for a while, so i looked under the hood today and discovered that the clear-ish vaccum line that goes from the top of the banjo fitting (i think that's the correct term?) to an unknown (to me) part on the driver side of the firewall, near the power brake booster, is broken almost all the way off just above the fitting on the ALDA. what size vaccum line do i need to ask for? also, is that one a different color for any specific reason? thanks in advance

That line is purchased with the fitting attached to fit the banjo bolt. It's nearly impossible to get new line to fit the existing hose barb. The cost of the line is not very high.......something like $15.00 from the dealer.......maybe less aftermarket. You cut the open end to the desired length and it gets inserted into a short piece of vacuum hose. The vacuum hose is attached to the nipple underneath the overboost protection valve.......the valve on the firewall that is close to the brake booster.

Hose

Brian-

Is there a T fitting that will work in that line for a boost gauge? Or should I take it from the rubber portion downstream (towards the ALDA) from the overboost protection switch?

T fittings are a PITA in the hard lines. The rubber portion........downstream.......is an easier choice.

Otherwise, you'll need to splice in some rubber sections to install the T.

The clear tube comes with the banjo bolt fitting already attached. I'm not sure of the proper name. The dealer can go by the description. As mentioned, ************** also has it.

Is pulling the bolt out of the ALDA the same procedure as taking it out of the intake?

If the line is broken at the banjo bolt you can put it back on. I've done it. All you have to do is pull the broken part off the bolt. Then heat the end you want to put back onto the banjo bolt with a lighter. Not too much you just want to make the plastic supple, and not melt it. Once it is warm, you have to be quick here, but you can slip it back onto the banjo bolt. I did this to mine when I found it broken after buying the car a year ago and it is still holding.

Home Depot has some hose, in plumbing section

Tecalan- that's what the hard boost pressure lines are made of. I have a spare right here- MB OEM says on the side DIN 73378 - 6x1 - >PA12PH< Cooper - Standard (D) - Tecalan - 20.01.03 E-003

I'd swear that Home Depot has the right tubing, in different sizes(ID), on spools sold by the foot I assume in the plumbing dept. I saw it there once. It looked like the same translucent hose. It's usually down low on the shelves. Somebody go check it out, tell me if I'm wrong. Those OEM ALDA lines from ************** are expensive. Just buy a bit of that hose at Home Depot and save some money. I bought the OEM; wish I'd known they had that stuff beforehand.
