I've been off-line for a while, and I have missed you all...

My problem today started after taking one of my son's friends home the other night. He lives about 4 miles out what is lovingly called a dirt road. I did not realize I was going to need a 4x4, and the old 240 took quite a beating. Both of my front sway-bar end-mounts were broken after 8 miles of off-roading .

I have the parts for the sway bar on the way, but this morning I had to drive her to work and the left front is squeaking something awful. The shocks are relatively new bilstens and I can see no visible damage. The car runs and drives fine... no vibrations or pulling, just squeaking when turning and going over rough pavement at low speed.

Anyone have any ideas as to where to start looking?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome back William,

I'm no expert, but if you have not replaced the sway bar ends yet, that might be the problem. I'm only guessing but I know the rear ones rattle like crazy when they are bad.

Just a guess.

Thanks for the suggestion, Bill.
I have not gotten the parts in yet, but should be here by mid week. I noticed less squeaking today, maybe it is just a rubber mount or two getting old and soaking up moisture?
I'll still get those ends tied down, though, the curves just dont feel the same without the sway bar doing its job!

I have the same problem with my recently purchased '82 300D, only it goes away when I drive it in the rain and a couple of days afterward. My mechanic suggested spraying WD40 into the rubber boots on the various joints. This worked for about a day. I tried injecting grease, and now it squeaks some days, and not others! I just know that some of you out there have gone through this. Any theories?

squeeky

I just had my lower ball joints replaced to solve the same problem, the boot dry out and crack allowing water and grit to enter.
