Help Solve Transmission Leak-Bowden Cable Mystery??
I recently posted regarding a small spot of trans. fluid from my 1985 300SD that suddenly began appearing on my garage floor overnight. Since it started suddenly and I decided to watch it closely for a while. Since it was such a small, flat spot, I never worried about it affecting the fluid level. It was probably less than a teaspoon in a week.
I recently remembered that just before the leak started, I had adjusted the Bowden cable AKA the control pressure cable. I wanted the car to shift a bit quicker and I ended up turning the cable about 4 or 5 full turns clockwise. So, yesterday, I re-tightened the cable by turning it about 5 full turns CCW. I looked for the little spot this morning, as I do every morning. IT WAS NOT THERE! I just tried re-adjusting that cable on a whim. Now I'm wondering what affect that could have had on a leak? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a couple of days before declaring victory, but it's been leaking that tell-tale drop for a while now so why would it stop after the cable adjustment. Can anyone explain this or experience this?? Thanks guys! Last edited by regsatx; 01-20-2006 at 11:59 AM. |

I wonder if this it the source of the slight drip in my tranny. I am going to try this on my 82 300TD and see what happens.
