I told you how to fix it on the other thread.
Use brake clean and clean the parts of the CCV system up real well (inside the air cleaner housing) That flat disk cover over the oil seperator must come off (bend the little tabs), the 90 degree elbow comes off too. Take the elbow off, clean it REAL well with some brake cleaner. Then let all the stuff dry. THen put clear or black silicone around the male potion of the tube where it pokes into the 90 elbow. Put that together. Make sure you use enough to completely seal it but DO NOT get a bunch inside the tube itself. Then put some all the way around the circumfrence of the cover over the oil serperator. Make sure it sits in the little notched section where it meets with the canister itself Now put those two halfs together...do not twist or remove it...just drop in place and bend back down the tabs Let the car sit for quite some time so it can set up. Make sure your rubber hose from the valve cover is in good shape and put it all back together. The hose should be VERY soft (not in the least bit hard). No more problems...garunteed I rev my 300SD into the 4500RPM range daily and have had ZERO oil on the filter since I did this little sealing up job. It makes sure that any oil that might try to sneak out of the oil seperator makes it into the 180 degree bend thingy going to the turbo and into the engine (where it belongs to be burnt...rather than coating the outside of the engine). Enjoy That is how you fix it. |

Perhaps I'll do this also and pickup a new breather hose.

Upgraded Breather Tube
Oh yeah ~ that'd help but I'd also do the cleanout thing suggested by...
?Brandon? as oil seperation is important , any rubber elbows or grommets must also be gummy and soft , I just changed the two on my non turbo breather tube and _WOW_ what an improvement ~ Performance Parts lists the rubber elbows as ' tube , early ' but the illustration clearly shows the elbow so I bought a pair , $6.00 each and they come in original M-B packages , pretty cool . -Nate Quote:

I just sealed the oil separator on my 300D per your instructions. It's now drying, and I ordered a new air filter today. I'll let you know how it works for me. BTW, I priced an air filter from the dealer today and it is now $49.50 for a federal 617. I'm sure it was more like $25 the last time I bought one from the dealer. The dealer's parts guy also thought the price had jumped recently. Off the subject, he also told me the Mercedes folks are arriving at the dealership with some "new" V6 diesels to do some high altitude testing. They've already shipped a bunch of euro spec diesel fuel (similar to the new US fuel, I assume) to use for the testing, but no cars yet. |

The air filter is not that expensive from other places besides the dealer. I wouldn't pay a premium price for a service part like an air filter. They can be had with less markup elsewhere.
Check your silicone after a few days of driving and if you still have leaks, it may not have been clean enough for the silicone to stick. It sticks REAL WELL if the two surfaces are clean...I used a whole can of brakeclean and multiple cloths to make sure it was pristine before applying the sealant. If you see goobers that got blown out...try cleaning again |

I think I got the parts clean enough for the silicone, then I brought the whole thing inside to dry in the warm (it's about 11F outside now). I need to drive from Denver to Jersey in a couple of weeks, we'll see how it holds up. |

Awesome.
Make sure you clean the rest of the air cleaner out as well...the oil likes to hang out on the passenger side in the low spots and is hard to get out (often mixed with tree needles and other such road debris) |

Air Cleaner De-Greasing
Boy howdy , you ain't kidding ! I took mine off the engine and cleaned it with de-greaser and a paintbrush to get way down into the crimped bits , there was a _LOT_ of oil in the nether regions...

Yep and any oil that is left behind will lift the silcone and you will be SOL...right back where you started
I normally do NOT use silicone but this seemed like an application that I could warrent its proper use |

The silicone is holding up nicely and the air filter remains clean (apart from dirt/dust) now |

Well in general
I have to take apart my setup here as the bracket is broken now. May as well do this mod while it's down.

Oil Return tube
When I first got my 300CD, there was oil all over the valve cover and in the air cleaner. A change to the upgraded flat tube got rid of the problem.
