LOL, An add banner appeared below the last post of this thread for trailer hitches. Not LOL at your misfortune, that sucks. Hitches can do alot of damage.

Sixto, I agree. I don't know what good a trailer hitch is when it's 3 feet off the ground anyway. At bumper height there would have been basically no damage. And, FYI, I was in the car when it happened, but engine off, so I couldn't throw it in reverse and get away from her.

A little too late, but...

I don't know how crowded or small the parking lot was, but I always park far away from everyone else. The last time at the local stripmall, a driver with a Viper rolled in at the same time. We both parked away from everyone else at least 20 spaces and each other by 3 or 4.
As we were both walking into the store we gave each other knowing nods as that being the most reasonable way to insure damage from the ignants.
These cars aren't too, too, difficult to get parts for from places like Fastlane, etc. But, I don't want to have to search for parts due to some jerk who can't maneuver a big SUV in an area where the parking spaces are small for these vehicles to begin with.
On that same topic, I wonder why so many people refuse to cut the steering wheel all the way left or right when pulling out of a spot, so it takes 5 moves back and forth to get the car out. Jeesh.

Grill's are not to expensive. For the W126 an aftermarket is $150, an OE is $350. I would insist on an OE grill, I have an aftermarket grill now and am not happy at all with it.

Good luck.

GASP!!! So sorry to see something like that. My story is a funny one. I had only just replaced my grill with a flawless, shiny one. On the hi-way, this bozo in a beaten up station wagon lost a hubcap and it bounced, and bounced.....guess where it hit me? My grill has a big ol' dent in it.
lesson: beware people with cheap-ass insurance.

I have Progressive Ins. and haven't had any issues. Of course I haven't had a wreck that was my fault either. Last time I got hit (pulling into the Euro auto parts parking lot for a part for the smoker) a little old lady ran into the back of me in my pickup. State Farm sure did a nice job though. However, I sure would much rather pay the Progressive premiums....
I'm not sure I would call it cheap-ass........

I always do that. park way in the back and take 2 spots. It drives me crazy that ignorant *******s think it's ok to open their door into your car. The dings just drive me crazy.
I was in a situation recently where I had to park among the peasants and damn if I didn't come out and find a ding in my door.
I swear if I catch someone doing it their car is going to pay dearly.

Folks need to just come to grips with the fact that it just happens, and is going to happen. You can park farther away to minimize the chances, but it will still happen. It's inevitable.

One time some woman opened her door onto my 240 while I was sitting in it eating a sandwich. I gave her the look of death. Her expression could only be described as "Oooo...I made an uh-oh." No damage though, the weather strips took the blow.

I was sitting in the left turn lane at a traffic light on saturday and some pricks in a mid-90's ford station wagon threw a water balloon at me as they drove by. Thank heavens the windows were closed on the passenger side.

Saw an idiot make a sharp left from the ceter lane tonight is his fairly New ford wagon to what I thing was a parking garage.....problem was thee was a cab in the left lane he would have seen if he looked....He got T-boned as the cab barely had time to hit his breaks and noplace to go....I was in the right lane just behind them at the time...I mean what are these people doing other than looking at the road when they are driving.

Trailer hitch Karma:

I took my truck when I went skiing last winter, and I had been towing prior to it. Now this truck, it's a Dodge Ram 2500 (diesel, of course) on 33" tires. I had left my trailer hitch on, but didn't think twice about it since it clears the hood of most cars. In fact, it almost clears the star on my 126. So it's unlikely that anyone would hit it while parking.

Unless they drive a cadillac SUV.

I came out to the parking lot after a day of skiing and as I was thowing the skiis in the bed, I noticed a hitch-shaped hole in the plastic bumper of the caddy SUV parked behind me. I momentarily felt guilty for having left my hitch on, but then I thought about how I'd feel if I had been driving my benz.

Anyone that can't see a 2" chrome ball shouldn't be driving, so the reason they hit my hitch was they don't know how big their stupid truck is. Which means, if that had been a benz or BMW or audi parked in front of them, they would probably have hit that too.

If they're going to park like morons, I'd rather they hit a steel reciever than an aluminum trunk lid.

Recently I've had a couple of friends file claims with Progressive.
Progressive's repair estimates $498 and $496.
Their deductable... $500.

Although, their rates are cheaper.

I'd say get a few repair estimates yourself to "put it back to its previous condition". Detail the car beforehand to show its value. Hopefully P will take care of you when they do their est. May take some effort.

Good Luck.
