Nice history but....

The Mercedes-Benz 240 D 3.0
Quote:
With the 240 D 3.0 Mercedes-Benz presents the first 5-cylinder engine in the world’s most powerful production diesel car to date. A swept volume of three litres, 80 hp and 175 Newton metres of torque permit a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 19.9 seconds and a top speed of 148 km/h.
Ya know, you would think that the manufacturer of the daggone car would be able to get their product specifications right.

I'll bet the 240D had a 3.0 5 cylinder in Europe, never imported to USA. The site also lists an S400 and others not seen here...

Best Regards,
Jim

Actually, I like the looks of that 260D. I'd like one of those.

I like the TurboDiesel badge on this early 300SD. I wonder why production models didn't get this type of badge?

1985 Mercedes-Benz E 300 D. The first standard-production car with a diesel particulate filter comes onto the market – in the USA.

2004 Mercedes-Benz E 320 CDI
In the A, C, E and S-Classes over 20 diesel cars are available with a diesel particulate filter.

What has the world come to?

I wish they would say exactly WHAT things they did to the C111-III.

I agree! That would be one sharp "fishing" car! I have looked at Jeepsters but I think the 260D would be the cats meow.

At the Geneva show this winter, MB showed an SL400 CDI, with a 315 hp diesel V8 and a sub-6 second 0-60, and an SLK 320 CDI, with a 286 hp tri-turbo version of the new diesel V6. The SL was called "Vision", which usually means it'll be produced. We'll see.

An SL400CDI would be so cool! It would be even better after AMG or Brabus got a chance to play with it a bit!

That way you could put the top down and bask in the aroma of diesel fumes! (We had better be careful of the mad scramble!)
