Dash Lights Intermittent (Not Rheostat)
On my '84 300D, the instrument lights and the lights for the climate control and window switches are not working. I replaced the old rheostat (has a broken wire) with a new one, but still no lights. Once in a while the lights will suddenly come on, but not consistently at all.
The archives seem to point toward rheostat and fuse issues, but I have ruled these out. Any ideas for where to look next? Thanks Mark '84 300D |

I would check the multipin connector that connects to the back of the panel. Could be that one of the pins is corroded or sprung open. I would also check to see if the connector has power so you can determine if the problem is upstream or downstream. I don't have access to the pin layout in the connector perhaps someone can direct you to it. It can't hurt to check the grounds bolted to the chassis behind the panel.
