1st llet me say i didn't have any internal problems with my engine at all (i took it to the shop and everything was FINE). i just wanted it to quiet down some. one day while in Autozone i saw the bottle label "ENGINE QUIET" tried it and it worked for me. it made a HUGE difference on the sound. if anyone here ever try it please be sure to respond TO THIS post so i don't look CRAZY.

Reminds me of when I flew into Wichita to pickup a 300SEL that was listed as having a "new" radiator. About a half hour into the trip I stopped with the wife to get some coffee. Walking back to the car I saw this large green puddle under car. Water was seeping out of the top seam of the radiator. One touch with my finger and Niagara Falls! the whole seam let go...

This being a Saturday afternoon the prospects of continuing my journey looked bleak and the wife was freaking out. Fortunately this happened in some small town in Kansas and the locals took pity. Someone called the owner of the local radiator shop and got him to open his shop. This guy welcomed us into his shop. After he got the wife settled down and turned on the office TV, he and I went into the shop.

I watched as he did an expert job of cleaning and purging the seam and put down a beautiful joint that would make Behr proud! All the while he gave me a steady commentary on the intricacies of proper radiator repair. In 2 hours time he had us running again. What I learned about soldering technique was worth more than the repair cost! Of course I tipped him well. Later the seller admitted that the radiator was just "new" to the car. "But by golly it looked like in new condition"...he paid me the $70 repair bill.

I haven't tried 'engine quiet' but there are various things that change the sound of my engine.. Using high blends of biodiesel creates a decidedly quieter sound than normal. Shortly after I started running a high blend of biodiesel I was applying a decal to the back window when I thought the car had stalled. Then I looked down and saw exhaust. The engine was just so quiet that I could barely hear it from behind the car. Now, the engine runs pretty quiet anyway (new OEM muffler and pipes, and no injector problems), but that was definately quieter than normal for that car.

So hey, if you think your car could be quieter, give it a shot, it might just be a lubricant and cetane enhancer, both of which would legitamately make your engine a little quieter, no miracle necessary.

peace,
sam

There's an old Andy Griffith episode where Barney buys a car that got the same type of treatment.

20 miles is too far away for you? Why don't you make a road trip anyway. Then when you got back you could post how your car withstood the epic journey

I drive to St. Louis (300 miles) almost every week. Sometimes even twice a week. Partly for business and pleasure. A 20 mile trip for me is nothing.

Stories like this contribute to why I will never commit to buy a car I haven't seen, touched and smelled. Cars are too expensive to take chances on.

Point taken but nice, reasonably priced 1971 300SEL's are not something you trip over everyday...

20 miles in evening DC rush hour would take me 2 hours......one way...and push my blood pressure to dangerous levels....You know what the Beltway is like in the evenings........or the morning...

I rarely drive the beltway...........66 is my road of choice...

I went to http://autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?UseCase=L001&UserAction=viewHomePage
and could not find it.
I will try to stop at AutoZone tomorrow for label reading.

I suspect it is either B100 with color and fancy bottle or engine honey type concentrate.

I also couldn't find it at AZ, they have a huge wall of this stuff.

Thier are so many products out their that claim to make your car drive on water. I remember when I last bought fuel injector cleaner it smelled just like kerosene. I suspect half of these products are snake oil like Slick 50 and Z max. The other 40%+ are just normal stuff in a fancy bottle with some good marketing behind them. I bet less then 10% actualy do anything such as Power Service.

BG products are the only ones that work as advertised from my experience.....BG44K is the ONLY injector cleaner for gassers that does anything more than superficial.

I went to AutoZone, 2 different Advance Auto stores, Wal-Mart and K-Mart today. No sign of this engine quiet stuff.
