Does anyone on this board have a 300SDL that could top 140mph? My dad had one in 1987 and (sold it last year to a lucky UAL 747 pilot) I never attempted to drive it above 110mph. A "certified" 140mph plus sounds ridiculous...at a comical 6000rpms?. It would be an even bigger travesty if the writer never drove it merely quoted the last speed marking on the speedometer as the top speed!....
But the SDL's diffy with properly sized tires would "only" be churning < 5,400 rpms.

In other words, well past the fuel cutoff point.

Ah come on DslBnz - the seller says it's certified 140mph - you are not allowed to lie on e-bay

What are the Ebay rules you are refering to?

My Ebay MB came with a $200 fee, I saw it before I bid, but still.

I covered the tags, registration and title fees.

If you buy a car from a dealer you get nailed with that BS fee. I got stuck with a $275 one, 100% cost covering plus a little profit.

This is pretty funny, but I have a local one. Back in Jan when I was looking for an SDL, I saw one listed in the local paper as mint for $6,500. I called the owner but the paint was shot and he said their was "some" rust. About 4 months later I see this car at the local import shop getting a new head. That sucker was so rusty I could stick my finger through every door. It must have lived in salt water! The add is still in the paper, he changes it every month or so but it is the same car.

Bummer.

Mine has lived in MD for most of it's live, on the Eastern Shore (salt water). Then moved to Delaware. The air filter was full of sand , but there is no rust on the car . Guess I lucked out.

It got covered with salt Sunday night as I had to drive for four hours on pure ice. Normal trip would have been a bit more than an hour. I washed it, but is there anywhere I should take extra time to check for salt? It's still coming out from under the door trim.

The dealer fee is a rip. I think mine wasn't too bad, since it saved me the hassle of going to the MVA. Covered the state inspection too, even if they did miss a bunch of stuff .

Printed the E-Bay ad and showed to my Indy - he got quite the chuckle out of it. He said to keep the ad from e-bay incase i needed to prove some value in an insurance settlement Not a bad idea

No, not a bad idea at all, in fact, an EXCELLENT idea! The way insur co's want to just total our cars instead of fix them because of their arbitrary valueing system, we need a way to combat getting screwed. This would be an excellent way to do so. Keep an ebay ad from a car like our own (whatever that may be) that sold for a reasonable price (WAY HIGH) so we can "prove" it's worth when someone bashes our car.

This is great fun

It's nice to know there's groups like us out there, prepared to give jokers a hard time.

And have some fun doing it :p
