Window Seals + Sunroof Algae?
I was wondering, I looked real close at my Sunroof Seal and noticed a little algae in the black seal. Will this be a problem. I am not sure if it can eat up the seal, I dought it.
I am bringing the car inside for the winter to prevent anything ells. |

I had algae on just about every rubber surface on my old BMW. It never seemed to cause a problem.

Old fashioned laundry bleach works great.

Thank you all for your replies.
I was thinking bleach but just did not know if it was safe for the rubber. |

Bleach+Rubber?
Guys,
With the cost of replacement rubber parts for our cars ,I'M gonna do a little more Due Dilligence before I start applying it to mine. Nitrile Rubber may be a different story. Any Chemists out there? |

Clean it
Protect it with some rubber crap (like what you would use on sidewalls of tires perhaps?) Bleach+Rubber=BAD...remember the tire burnout deal? yeah... You CAN dilute it a bit and that would be fine for general cleaning...but save the strong stuff for another day. Just wipe it off and put some proper rubber treatment on it and it should be fine.. It wouldn't hurt anyone to yearly clean out the gunk in their rubber parts...I did my trunk seal the other day...whew...what a gooey mess. |
