Rough Running Diesel
Hello, I have a 1993 M-B 300D 2.5 Turbo with the following problem. It starts right up when cold but then runs extreamly rough and may die until it warms up. Smokes badly during the early warm up and then runs normal. I have been told by an authorized M-B tech. that the probabal cause is badly worn pre-combustion chambers. Has anyone done this procedure without removing the Cyl. head and where can the tools necessary be bought or rented?
Thanks, Lgriffi |

I am a little new to MB's, however I have dealt with diesels for several years, it sounds more like a glow plug problem to me.
How long are you letting them cycle? Have you checked the resistance of the glow plugs? Hopefully, one of the pros a little more familiar with your model will chime in on this one.

I'd replace the glow plugs before going after the pre-chambers myself. They can still have more or less correct resistance and not work properly.
