Everything up their is clean, the sunroof headliner is off and their is no evidenc of water damage on it. I think it might have just been a one time thing, it was raining hard.

Might've been just too much for the drains to handle Hattie.

Glad its not your sunroof pan. They are a PIA to change when everything is rusted up.

Cheers,

Bill

Bill, I had the other end of the seal deal.

The guy who was painting the car was scared to try the windshield on the 115 240d after seeing it and the only person he could find to install it said I had the wrong seal so I ended up paying $300.00 for new windshield and seal installed but so far no leaks.

The seal came from Phil at fastlane but since mb started making the 123 in 76 for the 77 model year and most books and cd's list both for 1976 I occassionly end up with 123 parts instead of 115.

Of course the new seal on the trunk is leaking in one corner so I guess I will be in the trunk with a flashlight while the wife runs a hose around the trunk.
It sure would be nice to find someone that will finish a job, Completely!

this pasted friday, when goin south on I91 in CT, a rock hit my windshield and damaged it very bad...i stopped mauro motors in north haven to get an estimate on the repair/replacement of the windshield. The guy that looked at it said they could not repair it and it had to be replaced. He mentioned the place they send the car, and quoted the repair at $600. I haven't made a decision of what im gona do, but i was wondering if it is in my best interest to spend the extra bucks to get the seal replaced?

The seal is six years old. I cannot imagine you need to replace that seal.

Some of the shops reuse the seal from 18 year old vehicles, claiming that "the seal is fine".

I don't know that specific vehicle, but $600. sounds outrageous.

I would do the seal with an original MB part. Good insurance against leaks and unless your car is always in a garage or covered, 6 years of weather in CT must be hard on rubber.

What's a seal cost? $125?

I would agree with doing the seal. I'm still running back and forth to Diamond beacuse they didn't replace my seal. Mine looks fine but it leaked anyway and is still leaking. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get all the leaks stopped.

In this area $600 is totally ridiculous for a windshield replacement. The highest price I could fnd here was $325 for an OEM.

Cheers,

Bill

In the DC area the Arlington Mercedes dealer recomends and subcontracts BANNER GLASS on window installs. I need to call them and see what they say...bwefore it gets any colder out.

For $600 what's included? You didn't say. Not sure how much a windshield is for your car. Is $600 for cheapy aftermarket glass or original MB glass with the sticker in the corner?

How much is labor? Here in CA it's about $100 from the good shops, I think. I could find it a lot cheaper than that. There are a bunch of guys from south of the border that install windshields. They have a shop next to the salvage yard.

The rear glass for my '85 CD is almost $1000 from the dealer, maybe I said that before, I don't remember. Anyway, I'm still in sticker shock. Gonna get one from the slavage yard because water has started to separate the glass from a bad seal.

Generally, you get what you pay for...

Mauro motors is Mercedes Benz of North Haven (with a couple of other dealers including BMW). So the price is for an OEM windshield. Not sure what it includes, i was still in shock that my windshield was hit. I assume the price inlcudes new seals, not sure though. I will replace it sometime this winter, im not in a rush since i will most likely will pay out of pocket.

No glass coverage from the insurance company?

I think that someone is going to throw a brick through my windshield very soon.
