tension assembly fiasco
hello friends
I have been workin on the tension assembly on my 190d(1984) for the last couple weeks, my whole problem started when i needed a new drive belt. So I replaced the belt, and ran the car for a bit and noticed that the belt was sliding off the pully wheel on the tension lever. I ended up takin apart the whole assembly to try and find out what the problem was, I went ahead and got a new pully wheel and spring, and put it all together and the belt still was sliding off. Inspecting and reading posts on many web pages about similar problems I noticed that my tension lever (fastlane calls it Acc. Belt Tension Adj) was cocked at and angle toward the radiator, the tension lever with no belt on also had alot of play and found out that i needed a new tension lever. So i went ahead and orderd the part from fastlane. The part came in and right away, and i noticed that the part was not the same, the new part was alot bigger. I went out to my car to try to screw the lever back into the engine and the tension lever was to big, it would not fit past fan/water pump wheel that the drive belt rides on.... (eyeing it up i noticed that it wouldn't even fit if I took the wheel off and screwed it in, because the lever would rub on the wheel when i put i back on) So now im stuck with a old part thats shot and a new part that doesn't fit. Made some calls and found out that mercedes doesnt make my old lever and now only makes the newer lever (which is to big). At the moment i called a MB dealer the guy and his "techs" have never heard of such a problem... told me that i should send the part back and buy one from them cuz its a part made my MB..... Wendesday i pick up the part from the dealer and i am going to take my old and new lever with me. Anyone have any idea or has had this happen to them? any advice? Going to posts some pics tomorrow.
