As I sailed by the marina gas pumps, I saw diesel for $1.59. At the road pumps it's $2.00. Wonder if my 300SD floats?

North East Md./South East Pa. prices are around $1.89-$1.99 while regular gas is $1.73-$1.81.

They're not admitting it but the Iraq war uses a condsiderable amount of diesel which will reflect in the price. Supply/ demand.....

Cheers,

Bill

Talking It's time

I think it's time for either biodiesel, or I am going to buy off road diesel in 5 gallon cans and run it. .

About $2.20 a gallon around town, but if you head up on I-95 it is $2.03. Go figure? I paid $2.15 the other day!

Smile Cost of Diesel solved.

I read a number of posts here about people concerned about the prices of Diesel and how it has managed to out pace the price of gasoline. I was in a similar situation, but I think I may have solved my problem. Right now, here in the Phoenix, AZ area, diesel prices are hovering about $2.05. I expect that the prices will only continue on an upward trend. I decided to install a conversion kit to run waste vegetable oil (WVO) in my car. This option is not for everybody. However, if you happen to drive more than 100 miles every weekday like I do, it might not be a bad idea to explore. I bought a kit from greasel.com for about $800. I know that is a lot, but I spend about $150 a month in diesel so the kit will pay for itself in about 6 months. I collect oil from a couple of local chinese resaurants and filter it as I pump it into the auxilary tank in the trunk. I've never had an issue with collecting oil as far as the restaurants are concerned. Everyone I've asked has told me I can take as much as I want. They give me funny looks because they wonder why on earth anyone would want WVO. When I tell them that I run it in my car, they think I'm crazy. But when they smell the exhaust, and it smells like a barbecue, they begin to believe. The auxiliary tank holds 24 gallons, so I fill up about every 4 to 5 days. I can change back to running diesel with the flip of a switch installed in the dash. I did the installation myself and have to add... this is not for the non-mechanically inclined or faint of heart. I was very determined to make this work. It took me about 8 hours of labor in the Arizona summer heat. There is pleny of info about all of this at greasel.com and greasecar.com. I love my 300sd and think its wonderful that I've found another way for my Old Ironhead to give me some lovin' back. And I don't care about diesel or gas prices anymore. And when there are long gas lines, as does happen here occaisionally, I just laugh and head for the restaurants.

Gosh! I can't believe it; will these cars really run OK on cooking grease? What will they think of next?

If the trend of rising diesel fuel continues, it looks like I'll be parking my 300D and driving the 230CE. Yes I've been talking about doing this for some time but when lowest price for diesel was 2.119 in my area and 1.899 for regular UL last night. I have a bad feeling it'll be another .05 to .10 more today for diesel. My math tells me it'll be cheaper to drive the 230CE since it gets the same mpg as the 300D. The only thing is that I haven't got around to transferring the title in my name on the 230 since I bought it. The tags are good until '08 but I got the car from our neighboring state. A dilemma indeed.

Oh yes diesel is about .10 to .20 more than premium UL here too.

Refineries are configured to produce specific quantities of gasoline, kerosene, diesel, etc. for each barrel of crude. Diesel is in demand in Europe as 40%+ of their automobiles are diesel powered and the trend appears to be growing. This means that European refineries actually have excess gasoline production. They are literally making more gasoline than they need. This gasoline is being sold to the US and this is what is causing gas prices to remain relatively stable and lower than diesel. Apparently reconfiguring a refinery is expensive so the oil companies are slow to respond to changes in demand for specific products. RT

Yes it is. What we need are more refineries but, from what I've been told, the clean air advocates have nixed any plans to build new refineries. Kinda cutting your nose off to spite your face I would say...$3.00/gal.here we come!!

Since my last post a couple days ago the price here on gas and diesel has gone up--AGAIN.

Cheers,

Bill

Almost made me sick today! Here in East Orlando/UCF Area, I saw diesel at a Chevron for $2.27 a gallon! Don't know why it was so expensive at that one station... it's $2.19 down the road, and about 5 miles away I found some last Friday for $1.99, but I'm sure it's somewhere between $2.05 and $2.10 by now. And to think, I used to make fun of all my friends for paying so much for unleaded... oh how the tables have turned.
