Transmission / Torque converter compatibilty?
I'm trying to figure out which transmission/torque converter to use in my 240D, which I'm putting a 617.952 into.
My choices are: 1) The original 240D transmission. I think it works as I have the PO's service records. Unfortunately the torque converter has a broken tab, and I don't think it will hold up with one tab. 2) The transmission that came with my 617.952 (from a '82 300CD). It has a torque converter with it that seems to be in good shape. The bad news is this tranny was set done on top of a small rock that penetrated the pan and chipped a piece off the corner of the valve body (I didn't do it, it came this way). I'm thinking of JB welding it back together and trying it anyway. 3) The transmission in my '78 300D. But it has a mechanical kickdown, not a cable (like from #2), and I don't think I can get all that crappy old linkage to function properly, especially with the electrical cruise control. Which torque converters would be suitable for the turbo engine? I'm not sure a 240D converter is appropriate, and I don't know if the n/a 300D unit will fit the 240D transmission. The 300CD converter (for a turbo engine) will definitely NOT fit the 240D transmission, as the tabs have much smaller slots, and will not engage the pump. Any suggestions are welcome.

I know some people here have done similar swaps...I'm headed to the local U-pull-it this weekend, anyone run a n/a torque converter on a turbo? What's the difference?
