W123 Front wing / fender question

Dear All,

Please have a look at the two photographs that I've attached.

On the left hand wing / fender on my 1981 W123 300D there isn't a little rubber bung between the fender / wing and the main body of the car.

On the right hand wing / fender there is.

Which is correct?

The left hand wing has been dented on the upper corner close to the driver's door. Does this look like it has been removed to anyone? The panel fit looks better on this side than it does on the right hand side.

As usual any tips / pointers / help will be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this helps, but the pics are from my 84 CD.

Thank you very much. Funny how your right hand side is as tight up against the main part of the body as my left hand side fender... may be that was just how they were made.

The gaps around your bonnet / hood look wider than mine - please don't think I'm being rude I don't mean to be... I'm still undecided whether my car is as factory fresh as it could be. (OK I know the answer really it is after all nearly 30 years old but you've got the reach for the stars but I suppose you have to be happy with an engineering solution in the end)

Anyway thank you very much again - when I get round to removing the panels for re-painting I'll see if I can get a better fit when I put them back on.
