Best Leather Cleaner/Care Product

Anyone have comments on which leather cleaner and conditioner seems to work the best on MB leather?

Best Leather Care Product--Leatherique

As a sometimes resident of a SOB mail list, I can tell you that Leatherique (www.leatherique.com) was found to be the best product, bar none.

It is particularly good for restoring older dry leather to almost new appearance and feel.

I know people that have restored leather on BMW's and Mercedes to a good extent using Lexol's line. For very old and hard leather this stuff seems to work well and smells good to boot

I believe you are referring to "Hide Food", and I've heard it works great and enhances the smell of the leather.

Hide Food is made by Conelly and uses processed cow parts which I hear can go bad if it is not used in a certain amount of time or stored properly.. but I hear it does work good.

leather care

I've used Lexol in the past. About a month ago I ordered some Leatherique Rejuvinator Oil and the Pristine Clean. Since my '79 450SL has only 75,000 miles the leather is in fine shape and the rejuvinator oil did help but not alot. What I was amazed at was the cleaning ability of the Pristine Clean. Apply it and let it sit, then brush it with a soft bristle brush then use a white cotton rag or towel to wipe it down. I could'nt believe the dirt that was on my clean ( I thought ) interior. Use the Pristine Clean on leather, vinyl and rubber. It's amazing. I had my car in a show and people were asking questions like, "how long did it take to restore your interior"? "Is your interior brand new"? It's that good.

No I am not an employee of the company, just a satisfied user!

We may have the best products in the world market, but the best that can never be beaten is taking care not to soil your leather with grease or markings, and never sit/stretch the leather when parked under the hot sun ...

Just IMHO.

ps. perhaps there should be a thread on leather care?

Exclamation PLEASE!!!!!

For your own sake, DO NOT USE LEXOL!!

The lexol leather cleaner took the paint off my leather.
And the lexol leather preserver will make your seats sticky for weeks!

And this is only on 6 year old leather...

I made a post on this a few months ago, see it here:

Leather Painting

Still have not fixed the problem... but when I do, I think I will be using Leatherique.

David, I would persue a claim against Lexol. A friend of mine had seats crack in a Maxima following the use of a Meguire's product and successfully collected almost $1000 to replace the seats in the car. Personally, I'm not convinced that cracking was necessarily caused by Meguire's, but the point is that he won.

I'm sure all these company's carry insurance against these types of claims, so it shouldn't be any real skin off of there back. Present as much "proof" as you can, ie: pictures, written opinions from a dealer, etc.

Hmmm... I did consider this. I do have pictures of the good and then the bad. Then get a written opinion from the dealer... anything else? HOw would you recommend I present this to LEXOL? Thanks a bunch.

Get a couple of written opinions - dealers, etc. Make a copy of the receipt for your purchase of Lexol to further confirm. Begin with a call to customer service, follow it up with a letter and include all proof. Also include an estimate to repair/replace the damaged seats. You can't change just one seat, remember, they won't match.

It'll probably take months, but you'll get somewhere eventually.

I've found that Lexol is an adequate moisturizer and not a magic leather restorer to badly worn and sun-hardened leather....I have a vintage 1970's 16oz. leather motorcycle riding jacket, that has had at least 50 massaged coats of Lexol (then stored in plastic)...and the leather is still hard (but slightly more plyable).

Lexol did not remove color from my light grey leather seats in the E320 Coupe, nor in the black leather of the E500, nor on the 70's vintage leather jacket (whatsoever).

Lexol did somewhat clean areas that were already worn so you can see the 'wear', ...but applied by hand and excess removed/ lightly buffed with a 100% cotton t-shirt= d/n remove color.
