another sub as an option to the over hyped JL w7, with just as good performance if not better in some aspects for much less money is the Resonant Engineering XXX

their site link is www.reaudio.com very very nice sub, also the Stereo INtegrity Magnum D2 is an excellent SQ based sub, their link is www.stereointegrity.com

two smaller companies that have more than proven themselves, I would take either of these subs over anything JL offers anyday, #1 due to price, #2 due to performance, #3 to excellent customer service

denim, have you ever used any vifa subs in a car application? i have four 8" vifa subs that i got pretty cheap, thet are brand new and seem to be pretty highly regarded for home audio...

if i use these subs, this is what the setup will be....ill have the four subs in a sealed enclosure with approx. 0.8 cu ft per sub...i will wire them in a series/parallel configuration to present the amp with a 6 ohm load...the amplifier will be an MTX 81000d rated at 500 watts rms @ 4 ohms....but this amp actually produces almost 750 watts @ 4 ohms...so, im thinking that with the amp running @ 6 ohms, i will see an output of around 500 watts rms....i think that would be sufficient to run four 8" subs with power handling ratings of 130 watts rms each...

heres the thing thats been bothering me about this, though....the amp im using will not play any higher than 200hz....how do you think they would sound being cut off that low? i understand for 10"s and 12"s that 200hz is about the high mark....but for 8"s, shouldnt i try to cut them off at around 500hz?

please tell me what you think....i just put them up for sale on ebay thinking id rather have two 10"s...but if i could make this sound really good, id like to use the 8"s...just because you never hear someone say,"yeah,i got four 8's"..id like to have something different but great sounding too

No sorry, I have not used them personally, but I know people that have or do, and many people reccomend them, the are a great option to the RE8's, and are almost as good as the Crystal COMP 8's,

but what you descirbe seems like a good idea, but thats a beast of an amp, and you wold be the first person I know that will be running it @6ohms, but dont worry thats not a bad thing, just different to use an amp that is capable of over 1500 watts to be running it at 6ohms, lol but it will never get hot or ever be stressed for what your asking of it,

frequencies above 200hz are more for mid bass, but in some cases people will use 8s as mid bass, but your not so it hard for me to tell if Im not there,

but yeah 4 8s wold be cool, I know a bunch of people swithcing to them, but a good solid 12" or 2 10s might fit what you need better, but from what I have been told and read about them is that they have good SQ in the right install, but keep in mid, sealed 8s are not going to drop as low as you might want them too, but I will ask on some of my boards about them and see if I can find something more out for you

i was looking at the stereo integrity 12" magnum d2, and it looks like a hell of a sub and it will work in a very small sealed enclosure...but the only drawback is that it costs $300 compared to the $20 i have in all four of these vifa subs....im not trying to cut corners with this, but i cant really afford to shell out 3 C-notes right now....plus,itll be awhile before my amp is back in action...i have to send it back to MTX for a new motherboard or whatever is wrong with the thing...so,right now i cant do anything...i have some time to really research and pick what i want to use

are the resonant engineering subs any cheaper than the stereo integrity's? i couldnt find any prices on them anywhere on the net

I have had 2 Elemental design subs so far and I can say that they are some of the most cleanest subs that I've ever heard. The price is very reasonable also.

sportline brings up a good company, Elemental designs makes great subs also, the new edA's are supposed to be very nice but I have not heard them yet, but I mentioned RE beacuse they make very capable subs and have very good service and I know a few of the guys, same goes with Stereo Integrity, but they only make the D2, its an excellent SQ sub, one of the best out there, it can hang with the W7, but for much less, I understand about the money factor,

(sorry I am the master of the run on sentence) :p

maybe you could just run what you have for now and save the money until you can get what you want, thats what I did, and now I have an Orion H2 ,

but I say go for it, the 4 8's is a cool install as long as you do it right, and maybe since your amp is going back, why not run a different amplifer? or maybe two little ones, (just a thought)

oh I never finished about the RE's, RE makes many different lines, and their entry level is the RE RE's, but the one step up is the RE SE's and they are really good daily subs that have great all around potential, but the new Rockford are supposed to be nice along with the revised L7s from Kicker, there are so many options out there right now, I am moving from a 4 10" Eclipse Aluminums in my truck to 1 15" Orion in my car, so there is so many different things you can do
