More w124 Stereo Questions

I was a good boy, I did a search first before posting this. Some of my questions got answered, but not all.

This is for a car I don't own yet. I'll be a 1994 or 1995 e320 owner in 6 weeks or so. Thus, I can't just go outside and rip the thing apart myself. I need input from you fellow posters.

From other posts, it looks like Rainbow 5" speakers are a dash drop-in option. Are the standard holes for 4"? Will most 4" fit?

I now understand that the door speakers are actually little subwoofers (?!). I'll dust those for some quality 2 ways. Again, what is the stock cutout size here? 5 1/2?

Are the rear deck speakers 4" or 5 1/2? I figure on running these off the head unit I end up choosing, and running the amp for the front 4 speakers off of the head unit preouts.

It looks like there's no room for mounting a good 4 channel amp under the seats. Where's the best amp mounting location on these cars? I'm looking at modest wattage, maybe 4X55 RMS. Nothing huge.

Any thoughts on bass speakers? Bazookas? Box with a 10"?

The front dash location will take 4 in speakers but there is a large gap around the speakers that needs to be filled in with something. The rainbows are nice sounding speakers and are the largest diameter speakers that can fit witout cutting anything. The front doors are @ 5.25 in. The rear deck can handle almost any size speaker. It depends on how much work you want to do to get them in. If you don't want to use the rainbows (that drop in) the a 5.25 in would be the best size to go with. The amp location will depend on the sub location you choose. I usually make an aluminum backing plate/bracket between the gas tank and the carpet trim panel in the trunk to attach the amplifier to.

The fronts are actually a metric dimension - works out to about 4 5/8". I am a bit embarassed to say this on a Mercedes forum, but I found a Radio Shack driver that fit perfectly. It was nominally a 5", but it was small and shallow, and was only $2!! I had one blown OEM front when I bought the car, and just wanted something cheap until I could afford to replace the pair with something really good. Ya know - it doesn't sound too bad! At least it's better than the one that fluttered like a piece of paper in the breeze!

Try my post last fall for an idea on a sub for the trunk. Type this in the search field:

"Sub box for E class - Completed project"

Great cars! Good luck!

hey you all....does anyone have a suggestion as to what kind of two way 5.25 speaker i could use to replace the useless door subs?
what brand name?
i tried to put in some boston acoustics but they were too deep...and the magnet was braced against the back side the door making it uninstallable....
