no sound, just a little static

So i Have a 300d 93. I have to say this car has been incredible and every long trip is broken out for. I hit my first issue. Radio was working fine, turned it off, turned it back on one day and no sound now from the radio (am or fm) or cd.

When I turn it on the antenna does come up, I hear a little bit of static come through the speakers but then nothing. Futzing with the fader, volume or anything doesn't result in any sound coming from any speaker. Turning the unit off the antenna goes down I hear the same static come through the speakers and it turns off.

So is this unit just dead or is there some troubleshooting/fix that I might try?
thx!

I mean I haven't done anything to the radio could it randomly become unplugged? That and if the antenna is unplugged wouldn't I still get sound from the CD player?

Reread your post, I missed the CD not producing sound. It shouldn't be the antenna.

Good luck!!!

I think the problem is receiver amplifier in the trunk.

Try messing with the fader control and see if there's any change.

93 W124 has the 2-piece system, the head unit is just a controller plus cassette deck. Everything else happens in the box in the trunk, the tuner, amplifier, everything else is in that box. There is a gray cable with DIN connectors that runs between the head unit and the trunk box.

There is support in the US for these old units, look up Becker Auto Sound, they're on Rt. 46 in northern NJ.

You can use fader control feature. This will fix the issue. I was facing microphone muffled issue on Airpods. Now fixed.
