Radio static on all the time???

Hello Gents,

Well today I get off work and I start to get into my car and hear this weird nosie coming from the inside of the car. Well once I get inside my speakers are popping and making a static noise to beat the band.
So I drive home this way and once there I undo the battery and it stops. I have to run to the story and I get in start it and it's fine, for all if about 10 minutes and it starts up again. The radio is off and I'm not sure which fuse runs the radio.

Any one else have this problem?? Also how do you pull out the radio?? I want to install a CD player in it's place.

Thanks Joe

Remove the ashtray and bracket in there. You should then be able to bend back the tabs holding the radio in above.

The radio is making that noise even when the car is off? That's some messed up wiring there. I would want to get that straight even if I was running a new power wire. You'll want a switched line (and no car-be-ques).

Exclamation Caution

You could somehow have an intermittent short between the +12V, and the speakers.

Is this happening on all 4 speakers?

Very much could be in the wiring harness right behind the radio. I haven't taken mine apart, just going on general car audio experience.

Could also be internal to the radio. A bad supply capacitor could DC couple the 12+ into the speaker outs all of the time, depending on the design of the radio which i'm not familiar with yet.

Be really, really careful and only investigate with the battery disconnected. You dont want to make it a hard short all of the sudden and take out the radio or wosre yourself. Itll ruin your day off to get zapped by a car battery. Most likely, if its in the harness you'll know it when you see it.

If you open the radio, look for bigger capacitors that are leaking or otherwise look compromised.
