Dead radio '99 E430
Hi everyone...
Just bought an E430. Radio is completely dead. Fuse in back of head unit is good, fuse in engine compartment is good and fuse on left of dashboard is good. Anyone have any ideas where I might troubleshoot next? Is it possible that the head is just completely fried? |

that is a possibility. the first thing to do would be to check the unit wiring with a multimeter.
You have to pull the radio and check the wires for power. You need 3 main wires for the radio to turn on. 1. Constant +12V Power 2. Switched +12V Power 3. Ground If all of these have power and the radio still wont turn on, then it is possible the radio is the problem. Here is a diagram of wire colors tell ing which is which. it should be accurate, but I cannot guarantee it is 100%. WIRE COLOR POLARITY LOCATION Battery RED/WHITE (+) RADIO HARNESS Accesory BLACK/YELLOW (+) RADIO HARNESS Ground BROWN (-) RADIO HARNESS Power Antenna BLUE/WHITE (+) RADIO HARNESS LF Speaker (+) GREEN LF Speaker (-) BROWN/GREEN RF Speaker (+) BLACK RF Speaker (-) BROWN/BLACK LR Speaker (+) PINK LR Speaker (-) BROWN/PINK RR Speaker (+) WHITE RR Speaker (-) BROWN/WHITE Amp Location DR.SIDE OF TRUNK Radio Security YES Hope that helps. just be sure to test with a multimeter. Also sometimes a fuse can appear good and be bad, so you may want to try replacing the fuses or testing them at least for continuity.
