w123 new blaupunkt

Here's a shot of my new Blaupunkt Bermuda in the 300CD. Looking for a "new" stereo that keeps the classic black look is not easy but I think this one came out pretty nice. Thanks to Crutchfield for the stereo and instructions that were "kind of" correct. Next comes speakers anyone have tips on new dash and rear speakers to choose from??

Nice, I got a Blaupunkt Monterrey MP35 HU here recently, but I had to send it back cause it got damaged during shipping. Other than that it's a great little HU and it has MP3 playback and aux-input (aftermarket purchase, but at least it's capable). Looks good in the car and the screen can be color matched to interior lighting. I love the fact that this HU just plugs into the factory wiring harness.

Arrow for speakers

That looks great...For speakers I can recommend MB Quarts; 4" in the dash and 5/14 in the rear deck ...Shop the net for good prices I am doing it the opposite way , I have the speakers, and the Blaupunkt is next. Good to hear it went in easy...

With trimming 6.5 MB quarts fit the rear...along with the MB quart 4" in the dash which is the combo I run.

you have to bypass the console fader or run new wires to the back...4 channel amps in a car were a wet dream back then...

Dude, if your droppin 4 bills for that "cd player" .... you have way too much money or are paying mostly for that little star on the front. I paid $130 and I think it was a pretty good deal. Finding an HU that isn't all pimped out is not easy these days.

A car system is only as good as its speakers......

blowing 4 digits on the head end means didly squat if you don't put an even larger effort into the speaker end.

Also went with the BP in a 123

Recently installed a BP Montreal HU in my 240D. Got it from Crutchfield, for I think $99 after a rebate. More details in this thread: New stereo install questions.

I selected it because I was trying to find a model that was basically black, and fit the cars interior, not easy to find in today’s market. It also came with a remote, I guess this is for changing sounds while "working" in the back seat????

Still on stock original speakers, which sound OK to me. I can listen to CD’s and news, what more do I need? It’s not like this car is a soundproof audiophile listening room!

The Blaupunkt head unit I bought brings out something in the stock Bose that I've never heard before. It's like the head unit made it sound like Bose should sound. I mean, I have mids for God's sake! I've never heard mids in a Bose before. They are always one extreme to my ears, treble or bass. For example, my 95 C 280 was all treble and my friend's 96 Camaro was all bass. My bass hits, too. The bass in this car was decent, but now I have to figure out how to get the back deck to stop rattling. Also, no distortion. None. You can turn it up and it sounds phenominal. I don't want to replace the stock speakers now.

Thumbs up

I have maybe $85 into my stereo in the SD as of the current date (bigger fish to fry before doing anything else there) and it's amazing how poor the OE system is by today's standards. The SDLs sounds far and away better than the SDs.

The HU I have is an older Pioneer Premier (no dancing dolphins ) and some junkyard score Blaupunkt speakers. I paid I think $6/ea speaker, it was a killer deal and I found them getting some old 7 series BMW parts. The travesty! But I'm very pleased with the sound from those speakers, much greater than I assumed they'd have provided. New speakers make a world of difference and used ones are great deals online... Polks older EX and DX line sound great and can be scooped up for next to nothing.

As for remote controls, they're great in a car. They allow you to keep your eyes fixed on the road without having to look down to change the source/station/volume. It's very nice once you're used to it.

Suggestions for clean sound...

With some trimming a little time, I have a pair of Infity Kappa 6 3/4" in the rear deck and 5 3/4" in the front. The front grilles are trimmed easily (making room for the tweeters) but I found that my rear deck needed to be re-built so I up-graded the speaker size as well and dynomatted the metal also. They are powered by a Pioneer 3700 deck that I am very happy with, that went in easily. I suggest upgrading any wires that are used in the installation. I find that it is easier to do the job once while things are apart rather then ripping in to it again later. I also found that it was eaier to exclude the factoy fader by installing my own wires and bypassing any previous applications. I also used styrofoam baffles to insulate my speakers which make a world of difference. They are inexpensive and effective in protecting both sound quality and the speaker itself.
